Iron Fire: Blade of triumph

25/08/10  ||  Daemonomania

Let’s play a game, shall we? It’s called Guess The Genre. Chances are the more experienced metalheads among us will have made the correct choice already, given the mongoloid band name, album title, and 15 year old kid cover art. But if you’re a n00b, a chump, or too hung over to think about much of anything then here’s some further hints. Sample lyrical content:

I fight the beast
I fight the trolls
I smash the skulls
Of the goblins that stand in my way
No wizard spell can stop me

Ha ha ha haaaaaa, oh fuck me. No, no wait…

The magic will never cease
The metal troops will increase
Believers of the holy flame
Fools are no part of the game

Last but not least…

Face the mighty snow lord, the keeper of the cold
Ride the wings of thunder of the unicorn
Fight the slimy creatures that hide in the deep
The wizard’s spell will guide you through the bloody fields

There you have it. Multiple mentions of wizard spells with good and evil intentions, along with unicorns, trolls, goblins, slimy creatures, and increasing metal troops. All sung in a half-assed manner that makes me long for the dude from Yngwie’s “Seventh sign”. Yes, whenever a good Maiden-ish riff steps forth, or a nice double bass run gets going, Marty Steene starts spraying cheeseball crooning feces all over the battleground.

Even a fairly rousing tune like “Jackal’s eye” just drags on past the welcome mat, repeating a chorus multiple times, with Steenester rarely shutting his trap long enough for the audience’s gray matter to regenerate. How ‘bout the ballad “Legend of the magic sword”? Everyone should take a listen to this track to discover your level of tolerance for pain.

Have you guessed yet? Last hint: IT SUCKS. That’s right, good old power metal. Unless most of your erotic fantasies are based on the Prince Valiant comic strip, I recommend staying far away.
